Sher has a New Zazzle Store

Hi Everyone,
Things have been up and down here at our house the past few weeks. I was sick when I got back from the trip home at Christmas, then improved a bit, and got sick again...or maybe the first stuff never went away. It's hard to tell! Our weather's also been playing havoc with my asthma and allergies, but the doctor seems to be getting me straightened out...which is a good feeling.

Even so, with being sick, I've been trying to get caught up with everything. That's not been so easy, but even baby steps are some sign of progress. Sometimes we have to be thankful we're even able to take those baby steps! One of the projects I've been working on is a new Zazzle store, called Sher's Stuff. I've been working (last night and today) on creating images to use on different items for sale on Zazzle. I've had fun creating these images, though I'm nowhere near as good as my daughter--never will be, either! But, I've been experimenting with GIMP (a wonderful, free software very similar to Photoshop--and the latest version is 2.6). Right now, there are about 59 or 60 items for sale in my new shop, but by tomorrow evening there will be 100. That's my goal, at least. We'll see how it goes...but I should manage it OK. Tonight I've been working on uploading the other images I created and they are ready and waiting to be used. That will be tomorrow's work. Anyway, it's been fun trying to create images to use--some are strange, and some I really like. It's been said that people will buy even strange things...we'll see.

Other projects I'm getting back up to speed on are about my friend, Anne, from Menlo Park and her journey with the Infant Jesus of Prague. This is a work in progress...and will hopefully be ready for Valentine's Day. I also have stories to write about trips Jiri and I took this fall, in the Czech Republic. Along with these stories, I'm working on other writing...so things will busy...but that's a good thing.

Well, that's all for now...I just wanted to say hi and give you an update about things here in Prague--and tell you about my new Zazzle store, Sher's Stuff! By the way, even if you don't want to purchase anything directly from my store, be sure to shop around on Zazzle...if you go through my link and make a purchase, I will still earn a commission on whatever you buy. That would sure help me out and I'd be ever so thankful! Zazzle has some great artists and creative people selling everything from mouse pads to posters and more! Beka's used Zazzle a few times to print out her own creations, and she (my artiste daughter) says Zazzle does very high quality work with their products. Be sure and check them out...and my store, too!

Have a great weekend!

God bless,
Sher :0)

Happy Birthday from Czech Off the Beaten Path!

Hi Everyone,
I would like to wish a huge and hearty Happy Birthday to Expatwomen.com, created by Andrea Martins and Jill Lengre, both of whom have lived or are currently living as expats. Expatwomen.com turns three years old today, and is the go-to website for women who are anticipating a move overseas, or who are already living expat lives in their new countries. I first came across Expatwomen.com two years ago when I began working on Czech Off the Beaten Path. It was the first real expat website that I began to use and have continued to use due to the high quality resources catering to women expats. This site is one of the most comprehensive expat websites I've found on the web.

Expatwomen.com has had a direct impact on my life in many ways. This website offers over 1,000 pages of content, over 1,000 expat women blogs, over 200 readers' stories about their lives abroad, and country resource pages. The site also includes monthly interviews with women living abroad, and also provides inspirational and motivational stories catering to women living overseas. With all this material freely available on their website, I have found much advice that could be applied directly to my own life.

One of my favorite sections on Expatwomen.com is the section dealing with successful expat women. I have found so much to inspire me when reading about other women who are dealing with the same issues I face every day--working and living in a new country. Each month features a new interview with some of the savviest ladies. Another favorite section on the site, for me, is the section listing expat women blogs. Here, I've been able to come to know (in real-life and in virtual life) other expat women, including my friend Karen (at Empty-Nest Expat). Expatwomen.com also offers a free monthly newsletter that ties in directly with their website. I would also recommend this website for women who aren't planning to live overseas. You can learn about the world abroad, but also find advice you can apply to living in your home country, as well.

Thank you Expatwomen.com, and thank you Andrea and Jill, for creating this comprehensive website for expat women! I'll definitely keep visiting and using this website for years to come, and recommend it to others as a great source of information and camaraderie for those living abroad and those who just want to learn more about the world!

Happy Birthday--three years running--and wishing you many more years of success!

God bless,
Sher :0)

Relief for Haiti

Hi Everyone,
It's great to be back in Prague after Christmas! I had a wonderful Christmas with my family back in the States, and was able to also spend time with my dog, Pal. And then, I came back to Prague, where Jiri and I were able to celebrate New Year's together, with some of our friends. We had a fun time! Things have been busy since I got back, and I've also been fighting the usual asthma and allergies flareup. But the flare-up is now better, and I am getting back to a normal life again.

Speaking of a normal life, it was a huge shock to get up and read the news yesterday morning--it was all about the 7.0 earthquake that hit Port au Prince, Haiti. This small country is one that has suffered so much in the past few years, and now this earthquake has brought almost complete destruction to this poor island nation. The images are heartrending and unbelievable...very horrific. My heart goes out to all the Haitian people, and my prayers are going up that aid will reach them very quickly. Along with my prayers, I'm planning on making a donation to the Red Cross. It won't be a huge donation due to our current financial situation, but it will be some little bit that will help. If we each gave one dollar, think of the assistance it would bring to those in need.

There are several organizations who are taking donations online. The Red Cross has a store, on Ebay, where you can buy an item, or even just make a monetary donation using PayPal. I found a story on the Prague Monitor about several Czech NGOs who are also gathering donations for the Haitian people. Here, you can find a list of links to Czech organizations accepting donations for Haiti. There are also other places online where you can make monetary donations for Haiti earthquake relief. You can find some of these places here, on Mashable.

Well, that's all for today. I have some blog posts in "process" for the next couple of weeks. One is about a lady I met here, at Our Lady of Victory Church, and others will be about a couple of trips Jiri and I took this past Fall here in the Czech Republic.

You all have a great day!

God bless,
Sher :0)
